AT LONG LAST, I've re-uploaded the Gyakuten Saiban Subtitles! [Jun. 2nd, 2013|11:16 am]

So sorry for the wait guys. I don't really have any excuses aside from pure laziness (well, and the fact that I updated the GSYS2 Subs again in late April for a class project, but still). I've linked the files from my Dropbox:

Gyakuten Saiban: Yomigaeru Shinjitsu

Gyakuten Saiban: Yomigaeru Shinjitsu 2

Let me know if there are any problems with the links. Enjoy!

More Video Clips! And yet ANOTHER update to the subs! Because I'm neurotic...or whatever >_> [Apr. 30th, 2011|07:02 pm]
Yay for summer vacation! I finally have time to devote myself to my creative projects. I think I'll start looking around for a J-Drama to sub....

Since I have time, I went ahead and uploaded three new video clips to YouTube. If you own the DVD, you've already seen these, but if you haven't, then click the links below!

1) "Furusato" ("Home") - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0o2-w5KnzUM
2) Three Musical Numbers! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSeXC6l_ANM
3) Franziska and Edgeworth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cWnfNvSYZI

These are the last clips I plan to upload from the second musical--if I post any more then I might as well post the whole thing =P

I also re-uploaded the clips from the first musical. Here they are:
1) Prologue -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMPKpyvgMm4
2) Phoenix, Leona, Governor Miller - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OwGS-thSQ4
3) Edgeworth's Rule - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWmSvMq-_DY

Finally, owing to my super-obsessive perfectionistic personality, I rewatched the musical yet again and found more things to change about the subs. Most were just style and timing issues, but I actually did catch some mistakes in my translation that, while not glaring, weren't exactly accurate in terms of the source material. So I corrected those. If you want the updated version, click the link below. Again, I'm sorry for updating the subs so often, but I hold myself to high standards, what can I say >_> This will be the last time, however, lest I drive myself insane.

And with that, time to start enjoying my vacation! See you guys around.

Hey guys,

I uploaded an updated version of the subtitles. I just made some minor adjustments to the timing and some word choices--nothing major. But if you want the *definitive* version, then click the link below =P

Gyakuten Saiban Musical #2: Preview Clips [Mar. 13th, 2011|09:39 pm]
If you're interested in seeing what the second musical looks like, I've uploaded a few preview clips to YouTube. You can check them out here:

1) Prologue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10SRFjiQpyw

2) Gumshoe and Lotta:

3) Franziska von Karma: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o30Xyr7_lSs

If I decide to upload any more clips, I'll post them here.

Note: These are the same clips that I uploaded before, just with an updated translation. YouTube took down the old clips :(

"Gyakuten Saiban: Yomigaeru Shinjitsu, Futatabi" Subtitles [Mar. 13th, 2011|06:16 pm]

The long, laborious editing process has finally drawn to a close! Without further ado, here are the subtitles to Takarazuka's performance of "Gyakuten Saiban: Yomigaeru Shinjitsu, Futatabi"!

MediaFire download: http://www.mediafire.com/?rg1d86q2grkptn6

I added an "Actor" column that lists who says what line, which should be useful for those of you who don't own the play but wish to read the story.

Also, in case you're looking for the subtitles for the original play, you can find them here:

MediaFire download: http://www.mediafire.com/?x2gghbv97jd2pk9

I am currently uploading new YouTube clips to replace the ones that were taken down. I'll post the links once the videos become active.

Subbed Backup DVD Service
If you are interested in receiving a subbed backup copy of the play, please send a photo or scan of your purchase receipt OR the DVD itself (with a note attached proving that it's yours) to: gkkljapan@gmail.com . Please include your name and mailing address. I will check usps.com to see how much it costs to mail the package to you, and then I'll send you the total. I accept payment via Paypal. As I mentioned previously, I used to accept payment after shipping the DVD, but I've been ripped off once already, and I don't want to be taken advantage of again. Thanks for understanding.

Editing Update [Mar. 10th, 2011|01:25 am]
Editing is about 80% complete--I caught a bunch of character conversion problems (weird symbols kept cropping up when I burned the subs to the video), corrected some translation errors (!), and fine-tuned a good number of lines in terms of both formatting and content. In particular, there were some Japanese jokes that just weren't translating well, so I ignored the originals and made up my own, for better or worse. I hope there are no objections? =P

The remaining 20% of the editing will consist of:

1) At least one more full viewing to catch any final translation, formatting, or other issues (I've already watched it about 4 times already, but I'm a perfectionist, what can I say?)

2) Adding Karaoke subtitles for the recurring songs. The only song in the first play that I bothered making Karaoke subs for was "Yomigaeru Shinjitsu" ("The Truth Reborn"), because it was a time-consuming process and it was the only "main" song that I felt deserved it. This time around, however, there are a lot more singing/dancing numbers than the first play, and there are at least three songs that recur often enough that I can consider them the "main" thematic songs of the play. Thus, I will be making Karaoke subs for these three songs. I'll also be using some cool effects to make them nice to look at :) Hopefully they'll enhance everyone's viewing pleasure!

I intend to finish everything by this weekend, so expect me to upload the subtitles as well as video clips and all that jazz between March 11th and March 13th, unless something goes horribly wrong and I'm forced to wait till next week.

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to announce that once the subtitles are officially released, I will be starting my "Free Backup DVD" service again. Basically, if you e-mail me a scan or photo of your original DVD purchase receipt or the DVD set itself (with a note proving that it's you and not some stock photo), I will burn a copy of the subbed video file to a DVD data disc (NOT playable in standard DVD Players) and send it to you free of charge. Well, almost free; I just ask that you reimburse me for shipping and handling. I've been ripped off once already, so unfortunately I must ask for payment prior to shipping :(

Please do not e-mail me requests for the video file without proof of your purchase. I do not intend to illegally distribute the video, whether via torrent or any other method. If someone uses one of my backup DVDs to upload the file to the Internet, well, that's out of my control. I'm assuming that someone who actually shells out the $100+ for a legitimate copy of the DVD would not be the type to distribute it online.

As for why I provide this service, I know that ripping the DVD yourself and getting the subtitles to sync up can be a really long and annoying process, so this saves you both the time and effort of having to do so.

Anyway, off to bed I go!

YATTA! [Mar. 7th, 2011|01:51 am]

...Well, *technically* there's still some work that needs to be done. But the raw translation work is complete! Now all I have to do is watch the play a couple of times to check for errors, edit for consistency and accuracy, and smooth out any timing issues. I should be able to upload the subs to the web within the next few days! And I'll be sure to re-upload the subs for the first play as well, in case anyone still needs those.

Thanks to everyone for your unbelievable patience and support! I couldn't have done it without you. Though they're far from perfect, it is my hope that these subs will help those who love Gyakuten Saiban, Takarazuka, or both to have a more enjoyable viewing experience.

It is now 2:00 AM and I haven't yet done my homework for my Monday morning class! Meh, I'll do it when I wake up. Oyasumi nasai~

The finish line is in sight! [Mar. 5th, 2011|07:01 pm]
I am up to the final court scene! Almost there!

But man, this play seems to have a LOT more singing than the first one. Translating the song lyrics into something that both makes sense and conveys the lyrical depth of the original is quite a challenge. And just when I finish with one song, another one starts a minute later -_- I'm not one to shy away from a good challenge, though :)

But boy am I exhausted. Maybe I'll take a break and play some Maple Story >_> I'm on a Japanese server, so it's really good language practice! That's my excuse, at least. Hehe....

Project Update! [Mar. 2nd, 2011|07:31 pm]
Hey guys,

So the translation is making steady progress :) I'd estimate I'm about 2/3 done with the play. The main problem is the timing. IT. TAKES. FOREVER!

Anyway, back to work ^^ I plan to finish the actual translation by this weekend, but who knows how much longer it'll take me to time everything correctly >_<

I'm still alive, I swear! And so is GS2! [Feb. 19th, 2011|09:29 pm]
Hey guys,

久しぶり and all that jazz. As you've probably gathered from the fact that I haven't updated this blog in several months, graduate school has been kicking my ass. Hard. I've got 4 tests, a nasty history paper (the first I've written in 7 years... /cry), a Chinese presentation, and translation/annotation work for an early-19th century Japanese text, all next week. So basically, next week is going to kill me several times over. On the bright side, I 'll be attending a Kodo taiko concert on Wednesday evening, which will be AMAZING (my 4th time seeing them :3 ).

Anyway, enough of me whining about my life. On to what concerns you guys: The Takarazuka Gyakuten Saiban 2 translation. Short answer: YES, the project is still alive and well! I'm actually about 50% done, and I plan to use Spring Break to finish up the whole thing. When is Spring Break, you ask? Well, for me at least, it starts next Saturday and runs for a week, which should be enough time for me to translate and edit everything. So basically, I should have the subs posted online in two weeks time or less. Hurray!

I realize I originally planned to get this out like...a year ago >_> I'm sorry for making everyone wait so long. In fact, I'm surprised no one stepped up and produced a translation themselves o_O Am I really the only person interested in this kind of project? Or at least the only one masochistic enough to actually attempt to translate a Takarazuka play by himself? Hmm....

Oh, that reminds me: After hosting my Takarazuka Gyakuten Saiban clips for over a year, Youtube *finally* decided to take them down for copyright infringement =/  Bummer. I have half a mind to rehost them somewhere else, but I can't be bothered right now. I'll probably do it when I upload the Gyakuten Saiban 2 subs. When I do, I'll post the links here.

Oh, and that reminds me of something else as well: It has come to my attention that the link to the subs for Gyakuten Saiban 1 is dead. Yeah, I should probably fix that. I think I'll also postpone that till I finish work on the subs. Better to do everything at once, you know.

Okay, time to get back to this #%#$%# paper.
